Description

Capsicum

Its genus is from one of the most important “nightshade” families. Some other famous nightshade members include potatoes, tomatoes, and brinjals. There are as many as thirty-six well-known capsicum plants species like  frutescens, pubescens,  annuum,  Chinese,  baccatum, and more.

It is believed that it was cultivated for 3000 years BC. Interestingly, it has a variety of names as well as types depending upon the geographical area. Like in many countries including North America, South Africa, and more it is called “green bell pepper” or “red bell pepper.” On the other hand, “sweet pepper” or simply “pepper” in the UK, Ireland, and Malaysia. And typically called capsicum in Australia, New Zealand, India, Pakistan, and more.

Season

It is produced well under certain conditions like sunny areas with a bit of warm soil. Moreover, with the temperature range (21 -29) C, you can have an ideal yield. Any temperature under 12 C is not fair enough for it as the plant is sensitive to cold. So, the ideal time for the growth of this particular vegetable is summer.

Taste and Texture

There are many varieties and types of it. Those having spicier versions are called chili pepper, chili, or just peppers. Many commercial varieties are very much popular nowadays like jalapeño, peperoncini, peperoncito, and more. According to an estimate, Peru is considered the highest producer in the world.

Green has a bit low content of sugar due to early picking and is slightly bitter. Whereas yellow has a bit more pleasant taste than green. Red is the sweetest in the lot due to its more sugar content.
