Sweet melons are also known as honeydew melon. The name is derived from its sweetness. Another name of sweet melon is green melon, derived from the color of its outer skin. Sweet melon belongs to a group of the muskmelon family. They come from Cucumis melon of the gourd family. Other fruits included in this family are casaba, winter, Crenshaw and other mixed melons.
The honeydew melon is 90% water and 9% carbohydrates. Along with this it also has only 0.1% fat and 0.5% protein. It is so rich in vitamin C that one cup contains 56% of the recommended daily value.
The fruit grows in semiarid climates. It does not get harvested on size but rather on maturity. A sweet melons maturity is tricky to measure. The ground color helps determine its maturity. The flesh is usually pale green in color. However, the smooth peels ranges from yellow to greenish.
