Fresh Orange juice is a favorite beverage high in antioxidants and micronutrients like vitamin C, folate, and potassium. Orange juice is also rich in folate, which is needed for DNA synthesis and supports fetal growth and development. It’s an excellent source of the mineral potassium.

Nutritional value of orange juice

One cup of orange juice (8oz) provides 110 calories, 2g of protein, 27g of carbohydrates, and 0g of fat. Orange juice is an excellent source of vitamin C and potassium. Some other sources of potassium include fruits such as bananas, oranges, cantaloupe, honeydew, apricots, grapefruit, and some dried fruits like prunes, raisins, and dates.

Vegetables such as cooked spinach, cooked broccoli, potatoes, sweet potatoes, mushrooms, peas, cucumbers, zucchini, and pumpkins are also good sources of potassium. Other sources include juice from potassium-rich fruit like orange juice and tomato juice.

Certain dairy products such as milk and yogurt are high in potassium. Some fish like tuna and halibut contain potassium. Beans or legumes that are high in potassium include lima beans, pinto beans, kidney beans, soybeans, and lentils. Other foods that are rich in potassium include salt substitutes (read labels to check potassium levels), molasses, nuts, meat and poultry, brown and wild rice, bran cereal, and whole-wheat bread and pasta.

The amount of orange juice you consume in a day should be no more than 6 oz, which is the equivalent of a small glass. Drinking too much of any beverage can have negative consequences, and OJ is no exception. According to the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, most females and males should consume 1½ to 2½ cups of fruit each day. One cup of 100% juice provides one serving of fruit. That means 1 cup of orange juice at breakfast helps fulfill about half of your daily fruit needs.
